The first role of drums was, and remains, communication, and thus a
language has developed over hundreds of years. This workshop is
designed to introduce participants to the various voices of the conga
drums and the conversational manner in which they are played.
Participants will gain understanding of the fundamentals of this
language and explore communication through rhythm.

Jason Walker is a multi-disciplined percussionist with 25 years of
training and experience. He is a 1996 graduate (BM percussion
performance) from the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT., and
continues study of Afro-Cuban rhythms and Ashiko Drumming with master
percussionists Sam Turner and Taiwo Duvall. Jason's music can be found
in many settings including: performance, recording, therapeutic
intervention, dance accompanist, and group and private instruction.
