Workshop Series: The Art of Sustainable Living
Join us for an informative and empowering series of workshops to discuss and analyze sustainable living, and apply concepts to one’s own lifestyle.
Instructor: Richard T. Reep, LEED-AP
Workshops are offered as individual classes for $25, or enjoy the entire series for $125. Students will be provided valuable, practical information to integrate into their daily lives. Must pre-register as course is limited to 15 students.
Workshop 5: Innovation in Sustainable Design
Students will complete the workshop with ways to analyze and discuss developers’ “green” claims, and how to properly apply innovative technologies to their own residences.
Goals/Learning Objectives:
Understand innovative technology and methods (solar/wind/geothermal power)
Analyze first cost vs. life cycle cost tradeoffs
Understand residential market values and prices for “green” homes
Understand claims of “green” developers
Workshop: Using their own residences, students will analyze the cost tradeoffs for adding innovative technologies to their homes. Bringing in photos of their property, students will be able to analyze items such as:
Adding solar power, wind power, and/or geothermal power generators
How much more will my home sell for if I add these to it?
What do I look for in a so-called “green” or sustainable home or community?
Students taking these workshops will gain an understanding of sustainability related to landscape, architecture, and interior design, both for their own residences and for their community.
Each workshop explores a different question, and the workshops can be taken individually or as an entire class series.
