Ivory Coast Balafon Class (Introductory Level)

Instructor - Seguenon Kone

The balafon (bala, balaphone) is a resonated frame, wooden keyed percussion idiophone of West Africa. A beautiful and melodic form of rhythm, participants will have the opportunity to learn traditional Balafon techniques, songs, and rhythms.

Seguenon is originally from Ivory Coast, but we are lucky to have him as one of OurLando's local greats. Be sure to check out his latest CD, available for preview and purchase at the school's store, Evolve.

Please bring your own Balafon if you have one. If it is out of tune Seguenon can surely fix this for your. For those who do not have a Balafon (similar to a Marimba or xylophone) need not worry. Seguenon and Three Masks African Shop will provide the traditional instruments.
