Herbal Holiday Gifts

The holidays are fast approaching, and it’s a great time to get busy in the kitchen apothecary! Herbal holiday gifts are a great way to share personalized presents with loved ones that will support their health through the holidays and beyond.

One of my favorite herbal holiday gifts to make are sleep pillows. Sleep pillows smell divine and are fun to blend and package. So many of my friends have trouble sleeping, I know that I’m giving a gift that will be used and bring benefit.

SLEEP PILLOWS
from Rosemary Gladstar’s Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health

1 part dried chamomile

1 part dried hops

1 part dried lavender

1 part dried roses

1-2 drops of lavender essential oil

Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Fill a muslin bag, pillow, or pouch. For fun, decorate with stamps, beautiful ribbons, or acrylic paint. This pillow can be placed inside pillowcase or on nightstand to promote relaxation and restful sleep.

Another holiday gift I love is Salt Scrubs. Salt scrubs are useful for friends who may not have bathtubs or enjoy taking baths. Everyone’s got to shower, so what a fun herbal gift to share with friends. I like to use essential oils like mint and citrus for an awakening blend, or oils like lavender and chamomile for a relaxing blend.

SALT SCRUB
from Rosemary Gladstar’s Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health

2 cups fine sea salt

4 cups apricot or coconut oil

20-30 drops of essential oil

Use a widemouthed jar. Add salt, then pour oil over. Mix till blended, adding essential oils. Store in a cool area – oils will go rancid more quickly if stored in the shower and exposed to heat. It’s like an instant spa treatment!
