Development and Capacity Building Intern Job Description

The Florida School of Holistic Living (FSHL) seeks a current college student, current graduate student, or recent college graduate who is interested in serving as a Development Intern and providing a wide range of database, research, administrative, and general support. In return, FSHL will provide an opportunity for the intern to gain experience in and familiarity with areas such as fundraising, philanthropy, holistic health, advocacy, consumer advocacy, and the day-to-day operations of a small nonprofit organization. This position will report to the Executive Director.


  • Interest in fundraising for the nonprofit sector
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ideally familiarity with and/or experience with database and foundation research
  • Clear written and oral communication abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  •  Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field
  •  Previous internship or related experience a plus
  • Self-starter, good time management
  • Ability to work well independently, and within a team
  • Commitment to the continuous improvement of the organization’s mission
  • Interested in holistic living, building community, and sustainability


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with developing a donor and grant database
  • Conduct research on potential donors, possible foundations, and grant opportunities 
  • Determine program data collection needs 
  • Support the development of a capacity growth strategy 
  • Draft correspondence, copy edit grant
