Herbal Monograph Making with Samantha Johnson – An herbal monograph provides us with detailed information about a plant – its binomial nomenclature, history, usage, growth habits, preparations and so forth. Constructing your own herbal monographs can be a creative and fun way to artistically explore a plant ally or to learn more about an herb. Join us at our Winter Park classroom for an afternoon of creatively exploring our herbal allies. Basic supplies will be provided but feel free to bring any favorite herbal images or pressed plant specimens that you wish to work with.

Friday, May 1,  6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Samantha Johnson is an Orlando, FL based herbalist, medicine-maker, gardener, healthy food enthusiast, dirt-worshiper, and environmentalist. Raised to respect and admire nature, the plants have bewitched her from an early age. Over eleven years of study and intimate relationship with our herbal allies has lead her on the path to share the healing gifts of the plants with her friends, family, and community. She believes in accessible, affordable and inclusive healthcare for all. As an herbalist, she knows and believes that plants work for and with each and every one of us. Samantha believes we are able to empower ourselves to take back control of our bodies and our health from the oppressive systems currently in place through the use of herbal medicine. Her herbal training began at the Florida School of Holistic Living and has brought her to many different ecosystems across the US where she has been honored to study with a multitude of gifted teachers. Samantha’s academic studies include a BA in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Education and a minor in Biology from Warren Wilson College, where she was an integral part of the school’s Herb Crew. Samantha is a member of United Plant Savers and is currently working to reestablish endangered native medicinal plant species on family land in Western North Carolina. She can generally be found tending any one of various gardens or working in her apothecary crafting medicine for Moon Cove Botanicals. When not immersed in the plants, Samantha can be found exploring nature, cooking, eating, reading and spending time with her partner, family, friends, and two cats. With a focus on accessibility, sustainability, and bioregional herbalism, Samantha seeks to help facilitate a reciprocal relationship between you and the plants.
