31-Day Herbal Infusion Challenge

Welcome to the 31-Day Herbal Infusion Challenge! If you’ve come to us through social media, please see more details below about the challenge. If you opted in through our email newsletter, these are the instructions we sent out on December 30, 2022.

What is the 31-day infusion challenge you may ask?

For the month of January 2023, we invite you to join us on a journey of drinking at least one cup of herbal infusion every day. This can be an infusion made with any variety of herb(s) that you drink regularly, or you can change it up daily and try something new. Our goal is to have one cup of herbal infusion a day for the entire month. You can make this a personal journey or a social one—whichever you prefer!

We also encourage anyone who wants to join the challenge, but misses the January 1, 2023 start date, to still join us and simply complete the challenge in the 31 days following the day you join 💚

To participate in the social media challenge and giveaway (see details below):

  1. Follow us on Instagram or Like us on Facebook.
  2. Post photos or videos sharing your experience.
  3. Tag us  @holisticlivingschool  on Instagram or  @floridaschoolofholisticliving  on Facebook in your post(s).
  4. Use #nourish2023 in your post(s).

For your own practice, we encourage making this a daily ritual for mindfulness—sit with your tea, note the sensory experience of drinking it, and how the infusion impacts your body, mind, and spirit in the moment.

We also recommend noting the physical benefits of drinking a daily herbal infusion can bring so many wonderful benefits to your life:

  • Better hydration
  • Nervous system support
  • Improved sleep
  • Increased energy
  • And more!

Whether you take on this challenge privately, or join us on social media, it’s an excellent way to nourish yourself in 2023.

And, in the first week of February, we will pick a post at random for a giveaway!

Follow those steps above and you might win:

And, the more posts you share with us tagged and using the hashtag, the more times you’re entered to win!

Need to Know More About Making Infusions?

When we talk about herbal infusions, we’re really talking about what most of us know as “tea.” To make an infusion, you simply pour hot water over your chosen plant material and allow it to steep for 5-20 minutes. Once it’s finished steeping, you strain the liquid (or remove the tea bag) and enjoy.

If you want to make a nourishing long infusion, see the instructions below.

And for those of us living in sunny Florida, even sun infusions are possible in January! To make a sun infusion, put your plant material in a jar, add room temperature water, and set it in the sun for a few hours.

For a basic introduction to a variety of tools to use in herbal infusion preparation, you can also  check out this video on YouTube from our founder, Emily Ruff .

Want to take it one step further?

Consider using this challenge as an opportunity to experiment with nourishing herbal infusions that are steeped for hours. These infusions extract a rich mineral content from the herb*, and are excellent for a nutritive tonic tisane.

How to Make:

  • Gently warm a quart-sized glass jar by rinsing it with warm water.
  • Heat up a quart of water in your kettle.
  • Scoop 1 oz. of dried herb* into your quart-sized glass jar. For folk method: eyeball your 1 oz.
  • Once your teapot is screeching at you, pour the hot water into the jar and stir in the herb. Tip: pouring hot water into cold jars can cause the glass to break! So make sure to follow step 1.
  • Allow the infusion to steep 4 to 10 hours. Tip: prepare before bed and steep overnight.
  • Strain our nourishing herbal infusion.
  • Consume within 24 hours and enjoy!

*Not all herbs are ideal for this process. Some we recommend are:

  • Nettle Urtica dioica
  • Oatstraw Avena sativa
  • Hawthorn berries or blossoms Crataegus monogyna
  • Marshmallow Althea officinalis
  • Chickweed Stellaria media
  • Red Clover Trifolium pratense
  • Red Raspberry leaves Rubus idaeus
