Throughout the week, campers will embark on a journey of discovery as they learn about the fascinating properties of herbs and their myriad uses. Guided by experienced herbalists and nature educators, children will delve into topics such as herbal lore, plant identification, sustainable harvesting practices, and the art of creating herbal remedies.

Our hands-on approach ensures that every day is filled with exciting activities. From herb scavenger hunts and botanical drawing sessions to garden tours and herb planting workshops, campers will actively engage with nature and deepen their understanding of the plant kingdom.

One of the highlights of the camp is the opportunity to craft their own herbal products. From soothing salves and herbal teas to aromatic sachets and natural skincare items, children will unleash their creativity while honing valuable skills in herbal preparation and formulation.

In addition to the practical aspects, our camp fosters a sense of environmental stewardship and respect for the natural world. Through interactive discussions, nature walks, and eco-friendly projects, young herbalists will gain a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of plants, people, and the planet.

At the end of the week, campers will not only take home their handmade herbal creations but also a newfound passion for herbalism and a treasure trove of knowledge to share with family and friends. Join us for a week of exploration, learning, and fun in the magical realm of herbs!

Instructor: Lindsay Smithson

Screenshot 2024 02 03 102501Lindsay Smithson was born steeped in the backwoods of Appalachia, so her feet have always felt planted in nature. As a yoga teacher, tea enthusiast, and whole foods advocate, she started a medicinal herbal garden almost a decade ago, but it wasn’t until she became a mother (7 years ago) that she started practicing Herbalism more seriously. After following doctor’s protocol for treating her daughter’s eczema with no results, she started to self-study, learning everything she could about alternatives, herbs, medicine making, and the principals of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Armed with a whole line of homemade skin-care products and a new healing philosophy, she was able to see success in the healing power of plants, and her worldview would be forever shifted. She has been practicing herbalism ever since and the experience has led to a family ethos of bioregional gardening, cycle syncing, respectful foraging, and wild-crafting. Through her community platform, Rooted Bird, she loves to teach Herbalism classes to adults and children and is excited to pass these connections and traditions through to the next generations. She graduated from the Family Herbalist Program with Florida School of Holistic Living.
